Community Gardens are a simple solution for people without space! Usually, the community garden will provide a fenced area and access to water for the plots. Community gardens are great avenues for meeting other gardeners in your area! To get you started here is a list of several around New Jersey. Have fun exploring and getting a garden started.

In Middlesex County there are several in New Brunswick, Edison, South River, Woodbridge, and East Brunswick.
Duke Community Garden is a well established and centrally located community garden. The Duke Farms Community Garden opened in 2011 and over time, has expanded to 460 plots, making it the largest allotment-style garden in the country. Their gardeners practice organic, sustainable methods such as no-till gardening, building soil biology, and the use of natural mulches for water conservation.

There are community gardens in Berkeley Heights, Marlboro (call 732 536-0188), Plainsboro (call 609-799-0909), Morris Township (call 973-326-7400), Boonton (call (973) 541-1010 or email info@tlc-nj.org), Burlington County has two locations (call 609-265-5858).
In Cherry Hill there is Plant-a-Patch (call 856-488-7868) and in Mercer County there are several (call 609-989-6830). The Early Street Community Garden in Morristown (call 973.206.4177 or email info@growitgreenmorristown.org). In Middletown (email communitygarden@middletownnj.org).
The mission of the American Community Gardening Association (ACGA) is to build community by increasing and enhancing community gardening and greening across the United States and Canada. The organization facilitates the formation and expansion of state and regional community gardening networks; develops resources in support of community gardening; and, encourages research and conducting educational programs.
