Master Gardener Receives Award

We’re honored to announce that REPLENISH and Feeding Middlesex County are recognizing Miriam O’Hare for her amazing work with Rows for the Hungry as Middlesex County’s 2023 Community Hunger Hero. This honor reflects how much work Miriam and fellow volunteers have put into the project to provide first quality produce for the food insecure of Middlesex County. Miriam is being recognized but all our volunteers share in this distinction because the Rows for the Hungry project is a TEAM effort.

Miriam and her work with Rows for the Hungry will be recognized at the Thursday, September 7th County Board of Commissioners meeting at 7 pm at the County Administration Building, 75 Bayard Street, New Brunswick. All Master Gardeners are invited and encouraged to attend the meeting to support this momentous recognition!

Rows for the Hungry.

Rows for the Hungry is a legacy donation garden located at the EARTH Center in South Brunswick, NJ. The primary objective is to increase fresh food donations to local distribution groups in Middlesex County while creating a comprehensive hands on training experience for volunteers to teach community members how to grow their own food.

What Is Food Insecurity?

According to Feeding America, Food insecurity describes a household’s inability to provide enough food for every person to live an active, healthy life. Food insecurity is one way we can measure and assess the risk of hunger. In the United States currently, 1 in 9 people struggle with hunger.
